  • Our Products

We do our utmost to ensure all produce caught in the Falklands is of an extremely high quality.

This is due to the clean, pollution-free waters, rich abundance of food such as plankton and a well-managed fishing zone.

All of our products can be bought from our marketing companies Marfrio and Copemar.

  • Squid

Although we fish for a wide variety of species, our primary product is the highly prized Patagonian Squid - Loligo Doryteuthis Gahi.

This is reprocessed and marketed by our marketing companies Copemar and Marfrio following landing into Vigo or Marin. Both companies ensure the best possible quality for our product.
  • Finfish

Our finfish license allows us to fish for various types of finfish in the Falkland waters.

Although our primary target is hake other fish such as grenadier, hoki, kingclip, red cod and southern blue whiting are also popular.

These are also processed by our marketing companies Marfrio and Copemar.

    Our Products
    • The Falkland Islands are an archipelago located in the South Atlantic, 310 miles (500 kilometres) east of the Patagonian coast.

The climate is mild, with no extreme highs or lows in temperature, but the weather is renowned for being very erratic and very windy.

It’s not uncommon to go from sun to snow in an afternoon, although this does little to hinder the fishing effort.

    • Today we have a substantial shareholding in two Falkland’s registered joint venture companies: South Atlantic Squid Ltd and Igueldo Fisheries (F.I.) Company Ltd. Both companies boast a modern deep-sea factory trawler. We are currently undertaking construction of a new vessel with the former to replace the F/V Baffin Bay. We operate the Falklands flagged Igueldo with the latter.

Both vessels are licensed to fish for squid (loligo gahi) and finfish in the Falklands waters.

After each trawl the catch is cleaned, processed, sorted (into species and sizes) onboard and then frozen in trays ready for packaging and stored until the next transshipment.

Frozen Squid is reprocessed landside in Marin, Spain, by our marketing companies Marfrio and Copemar.

    Where We Operate
    • Our Approach

The Falkland Islands has, for over a quarter of a century, had an excellent reputation as one of the best managed fishing zones in the world.

ITQ license holders comply with Falkland Islands Fisheries stringent rules and assist in fisheries research as required; this includes satellite tracking of vessel movement, daily catch reports including discard quantities and bird interaction mitigation measures.

Our participation helps to ensure that the FI fishery remains one of the most sustainable and well managed fisheries in the world.

    • Caring For Our Environment

The Falkland Islands is a delicate eco-system that we strive to preserve, and the sustainability of the species we catch is an important part of that.

By using specially designed nets we ensure we only catch certain size of certain species. Depth detectors on the trawl doors also ensure we fish at the correct depth for the correct species. We also participate, whenever possible, in scientific trawls, these are overseen by scientists from the Fisheries Department and help to measure the overall biomass of a certain species, normally Loligo.

    • Caring For Our Crew

We care about our crew and acknowledge our obligations to them. We ensure that all of our crew members hold the necessary certification to safely work onboard our vessels. We conduct ourselves under the principles of ILO 188 and are ahead of the Falkland Islands obligations in this regard.

Currently we have a mix of nationalities onboard our vessels including Spanish, Indonesian, Peruvian, Senegalese and one crew member from Mozambique.

    • The Results

Our whole Patagonian Squid has been awarded the Superior Taste Award with 2 Gold Stars, once again demonstrating its exceptional quality. While, the battered sea caprices and the Giant squid tentacles, have been awarded with the ITQI of 1 star.

This recognition is awarded by an independent jury made up of more than 200 chefs and sommeliers from different parts of the world, where, through a blind tasting, the following is assessed: the visual, olfactory, gustatory aspect, the final sensation and the texture.

It is also an award recognized by institutions such as the Michelin Guide, the Repsol Guide and Gault & Millau.
